The Justice Department has upgraded its review of the GOOGLE (NASD: GOOG)-YAHOO (NASD: YHOO) search deal to a formal investigation. Currently, anti-trust issues plague the deal, which could dwell in regulatory uncertainty for more than a few months.

APPLE (NASD: AAPL) will sell a ‘no-contract-required’ iPhone. The new no-contract 3G iPhone will be available for $599/699, $400 more than AT&T’s (NYSE: T) subsidized price.The big news is that the contract-less iPhone will still be limited to the AT&T network.

BLOCKBUSTER (NYSE: BBI) has called off its merger with CIRCUIT CITY (NYSE: CC). The video-rental chain decided to abandon the $1 billion deal after reviewing Circuit City’s books, which the electronics retailer reluctantly gave Blockbuster access to.

AT&T (NYSE: T) will terminate its contract with the DISH NETWORK (NASD: DISH) at the end of the year. While AT&T will stop selling satellite TV services from Dish, it has not ruled out selling satellite service via a new deal with Dish, or competitor DIRECTV (NASD: DTV).
