GOOGLE (NASD: GOOG) will launch Chrome today, its own Internet browser. Chrome, which will directly compete with MICROSOFT’s (NASD: MSFT) Internet Explorer and MOZILLA’s FIREFOX for a share of the market, will also be available on mobile devices. Google is counting on its open source foray into web browsing to diversify its interests, while disrupting Microsoft’s grasp on browsing.

Broadband providers are cutting costs as new subscribers decline. VERIZON (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) both announced that they are slashing and bundling the cost of DSL service. Expect tactics to become aggressive as cable companies and teleco’s battle for the roughly 40% of U.S. households that have yet to get high speed internet.

WILMINGTON, NC will begin broadcastingDigital Television next Monday, September 8th. The coastal city will turn off analog signals and broadcast in digital, potentially leaving thousands of TV screens blank. Wilmington was chosen as the first city to switch to a totally digital signal.
